Andrew O’Brien, President

Andy began his insurance career at the E.W. Blanch Company in 1977 where he ultimately served as a General Partner, Executive Vice President and director. He has also served as a director of the Health Care Insurance Facility, First Dakota Indemnity Company and SAFE, Inc. (holding company for an accident/health insurer). He currently serves as a director and President of Benchmark Insurance Company and Trean Corporation. He holds a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School and a CPCU designation.

Julie A. Baron, Chief Financial Officer

Julie is the Chief Financial Officer of Trean Corporation and Treasurer of Benchmark Insurance Company. Previously, Julie served as the Controller for Benchmark from 2007 to 2015. Prior to joining Trean, Julie was the controller for a mortgage broker and title company in the Twin Cities. She is a CPA (inactive) and earned a B.S. in Accounting from Arizona State University.

Daniel Fosterling, Senior Vice President, Product Development

Before joining Trean in 1996, Dan accumulated 20 years experience underwriting casualty, workers compensation, property and medical malpractice lines of business, including St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance Company where he was a Senior Regional Underwriting Manager - Major Accounts and Chief Underwriting Officer at HCIF Management Company. Dan sits on the board of Benchmark Insurance Company, is a member of the Nevada medical liability subcommittee of the commissioner’s property casualty advisory committee and is a member of the NCCI National Underwriting Committee. He holds a CPCU designation, an Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) designation, an Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU) designation and a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin.

Martin Ericson, Chief Underwriting Officer for Benchmark Insurance Company and Trean Corporation

Marty is the Chief Underwriting Officer for Benchmark Insurance Company and Trean Corporation. Before joining Trean, Marty acquired over 25 years of underwriting experience from Crum & Forster, St. Paul Fire and Marine, and more recently Berkley Risk Administrators, with a heavy emphasis on specialty casualty and workers compensation lines of business. He has extensive exposure addressing the needs of Insurance Trusts, Reciprocals and Risk Retention Groups.

Steve Novak, Underwriting and Claims Manager, Retail Broker and Reinsurance Broker

Steve has enjoyed over 31 years working within the workers compensation and medical malpractice industries as an underwriting and claims manager, retail broker and reinsurance broker. He is a member of the American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds (AASCIF) and Southern Association of Workers Compensation Administrators (SAWCA).
